Theravada - The Years We Have

"Where I'm At" begins, "Can't be going on a whim, it's getting thin for that notion. My father cannot use his limbs." Next, "Conditions/Climbing" echoes the sentiment with "Jab step on Jamal Crawford. More money in the summer, dripped out every autumn." You could read the juxtaposition as "Here's my most personal album to date, but rest assured my frame of reference remains basketball and fashion." I, on the other hand, am reading Jacques Vallee's UFO Chronicles of the Soviet Union, requisitioned tonight from the Lido Beach West book box. For curious minds, Engels' Condition of the Working Class in England should still be there along with some pamphlets written in Russian, that is, unless the couple out there taking engagement photos on this buggy evening really knows what time it is. All that being said, my favorite song couplet on The Years We Have is not the introductory set but the "Learning Curve" on "Sucka MCs" or the "Windows" past "Day By Day By Day." He ends "Learning Curve" conceding, "You knew the real me in that 05 Altima. It's gonna cost you more if I gotta get it to Baltimore. We not about to take that drive to Florida." A few bars into "Windows," he proclaims, "Since Marcberg and Glassjaw, coldest out of Nasssau. This is what I rap for. I'm about to cop that RAV4," to which I say same bro, and also, Daryl, if you're reading this, he's definitely in the running.

Theravada Hot 97 Freestyle

Speaking of Rosenberg, shout out to that man for allowing this to happen. Theravada recently appeared on the Real Late show on Hot 97, where he spoke about how he got into hip-hop; his recent Earl placement, "Tabula Rasa" ft. the best rap group in the world, Armand Hammer; losing his laptop; and some of his influences (Madlib, Timbaland, Nas, Tribe, Dilla). Then, as captured beginning at the 12:17 mark below, Theravada rapped live on Hot 97

Right now, as always, there are awful things happening in the world, but there are also some really great things happening, and, for me at least, this was one of them. "It's not 'Third.' It's not 'The Ravada.' Thank you."

Theravada - Clarity of Escape

New music from Theravada, mostly instrumental including axe murder anthem "cadett5," but the title cut sees him continuing to vocally undress a hologram. Hear more Theravada beats and rhymes on fellow 2000 flag-bearer Rbchmbrs' Old Man Soon.

Theravada Interviewed on The Oldneon Experience

Definitely asked this kid if his parents were buddhists or hippies when he first told me his name. Oops...

Theravada & Marlo DeMore - "Told My Girl Don't You Switch Up Like the Verizon Man"

About, I don't know, three or four years ago, I had the pleasure of not only meeting Marlo DeMore and Theravada but watching them perform together at the same Bellmore pool hall at which I spent a good chunk of my mid-20s. A couple weeks later, the place closed. Ever since then, I've been waiting for them put out songs together. Welcome as this is, the chemistry is almost frustrating, as it only furthers my impression these two might be sitting on an album's worth of the best material either of them has ever done.

Theravada - Little Did I Know

Little did you know, Theravada's starting to sound less like early-era Ill Bill. This is both a good and a bad thing.

Theravada - "525 Rough"

Theravada doesn't just make bugged out beats; he also raps like a strange creature of sorts. (Speaking of, check out his F U K X E N [Rap Demo] too.) Listen to this while you still can, before Xen takes it off the Internet and puts it back in his beard for safe keeping.

Grandmilly with Shozae & Theravada in Our Nation's Capital

In other Hempstead-related news, Zeroklique OG Grandmilly just co-headlined a show down in D.C. with Awful Records founder Father. Not listed on the bill but clearly in attendance as well were Theravada and Midnite Society's Shozae.

Below you can see some footage from their trip shot by Omar Jones with a Zeiss 50mm camera. The song playing throughout is "The Lords" off Grandmilly's Miseducation EP.

It's just test footage, so don't expect any video to come back in after the screen goes black.

Theravada - "^^^^^^"

Been falling into the modern-era trap of giving much more shine to rappers than DJs and producers, so here's the latest from Theravada. A bearded Buddhist beat dude from the Bellmore-Wantagh border zone, Theravada comprises one half of the duo Trilogy (the other half being DC-based Rob Chambers), which supposedly has a new beat tape coming soon.
