Muddy - girl Problemz

It was one thing when GZA was using his albums to introduce the world to Killah Priest or Ka, but ever since that one biggest rapper/producer of the century started throwing existing pop songs into the mix, I've had no idea what's happening. For several years, I edited a monthly mixtapes column that was mostly albums. Today, the waters are even muddier. 

Case in point: I don't know how many of these songs are Muddy's and Muddy's alone and how many, if any, are remixes. What's a rap remix anyway, a fucking cloak? For that matter, in today's Soundcloud rap terms, what the fuck is a playlist? A mixtape by any other word would sound as compiled. 

It's not that I'm altogether washed—see what I did there—but I do acknowledge there's a whole ecosystem of new rap about which I know next to nothing. Maybe Muddy combs the biome?

Drownmili & Burnkas - Drown & Burn

Back in April, I posted a playlist of a handful of songs Drownmili, Burnkas and Purpdogg had done together, though it looks like a few of those songs have since been taken down or moved around, as the list has been whittled down to three tracks. At any rate, the three artists have continued to put out tunes together and recently dropped a six-song EP. If its title sounds unfeasible, the cover illustrates how it's done.

Black Teenager - The "Death Boy" Tape

This is Black Teenager. Black Teenager is from Brownsville, not LI, but he goes/went to SUNY Farmingdale and is/was at least loosely affiliated with the RADICAL$ crew, which is how I was introduced to his music.

Black Teenager has a new album out on Soundcloud and iTunes, called The "Death Boy" Tape, which has a macabre audio-aesthetic concept I won't give away, but dig the early procession progression.

This post is long overdue, but with a literal fascist about to take over the country's highest office, I can think of no better time for something +RADICAL+. Here then are some highlights from the young squad's catalog, including some recent and some not-so-recent releases by Amityville's Oscar O'Malley, Mob9 reps Kasper Dangers and DrownMili, and (SUNY) Farmingdale's Black Teenager (originally from Brownsville). These are just a few of the tracks I've been playing on repeat tonight, but there are many more members of this collective, so if you dig what you hear below, dig deeper.
