"It's a dirty game of chess or checkers. Get paid or be left naked and desperate. I lit a candle and played Jamaican records, prayed and rested next to my favorite weapons, saved my bread up and then made my exit. I'm going back and forth with the thoughts of quitting like table tennis, but what's the game if the players ain't in it? Every pen ran out of ink on the day this was written."

That's it. That's the post.

Yeah but what's the line before the chess or checkers one? It's the only bar on the entire record I can't hear because Roc is all rushed and mush mouthed.

Idk, maybe “Be James Evans (Evers?) or Rayful Edmond” but not sure...

Thanks for tryin' and the quick reply. That's pretty damn close to what I hear too. I get the Rayful Edmond reference but the first half of that line, the James part I still can't quite make out and therefore don't understand.

James Evans sounds clearer than the 2nd half IMO. I was trying to find a Good Times reference that’d fit the 2nd half but I don’t want to Genius it w some totally ridiculous interpretation.

Well "James Evans ?" was the only part that was already on Genius. Definitely easier to hear but harder to make sense of, had considered the Good Times angle but haven't been able to make anything out of it that really works yet.

"Be James Evans or Rayful Edmond" is the closest interpretation I've seen thus far, so I added it for now at least, because even if incorrect it's some small progress and may spark someone else's thoughts.

Went through and fixed everything else I could find. The rest of the album should be fairly correct, hopefully.
